We had a great
time at Christmas Camp these past few days! After everyone got checked in on
Friday evening, each of the cabin groups spent some time doing ice breakers and
making a code of living for their group. Then campers met in the Lodge for some
all camp games, followed by an indoor campfire in the dining hall.
On Saturday
morning, everyone was ready to see the horses and have some riding time!
We had
split the girls up into four groups and each group rotated to a riding lesson,
horse science, arts and crafts, and some group games on the lower athletic
field. Once lunch was finished, it was time for more horse fun! Campers did
mounted games, pictures with the horses, and opposite that made cookies (lots
and lots of cookies!) for dessert that evening. After dinner, it was off to the
woods for an elf hunt and campfire. The elves even shared their marshmallows
for us to roast on the fire. Whew! What a busy day! Once the girls headed back
to camp, they had time to relax in the dining hall, play some games and visit
the camp store.
Sunday was a
beautiful, sunny day and the girls enjoyed riding, horse science, a scavenger
hunt, and skit planning for the morning. After lunch, we had a quick rest break
and then hopped on the bus for the drive to the Kalahari water park in
Wisconsin Dells. Campers (and staff!) enjoyed the waterslides, lazy river, and
activity pools.
Monday morning we
started things out with riding lessons, cookie decorating, skit practice, group
games, and time with the Hoofbeat herd of mini ponies. After lunch everyone was
pretty tired from being on the go so much, so we had a rest break. The weather
was a little challenging for us as we had some freezing rain that changed over
to snow, but we made the best of it. Campers had a chance to do barn fun, a
treasure hunt, decorated for the New Year's Eve party. Once dinner had finished
up, it was time to start our New Year's Eve party. Campers dressed in
"Olympic" themed costumes, preformed their group skits, played a
bunch of "Minute to Win It" games, and had some hot apple cider, and
popcorn.
On Tuesday
morning, everyone got to sleep in a little later since we had such a busy New
Year's Eve! After breakfast was finished, we took advantage of the fresh snow
with some sledding. Campers also got a chance to do some bareback riding and
spend more time with our herd of mini ponies.
Christmas Camp
flew by this year and we want to say a big thank you to parents, campers, and
staff for making the trip to Hoofbeat! We hope to see you again soon and Happy
New Year!
