September 2021 Blog Update

 Hello from Hoofbeat Ridge!

We wanted to say a big thank you to all of our campers, their families, the Hoofbeat horses, and our staff for another great summer! It certainly went by fast (as the summers usually do!).

We are staying busy here at camp even though the summer is over. We've hosted two First Responder training clinics, unloaded lots of hay for the horses, mowed the horse pastures, and worked on some fence repair projects.

We are looking forward to fall programs starting soon. We have Girl Scout events, Horse Lover's Days, a Pony Fun Day, Pippa's Fall Fun Day, Ginger's Christmas Party, and a Christmas Day Camp. Many of these programs are already full or only have a few spaces left.

The horses are enjoying some time off and getting out to graze their pastures almost every day.

We saw Whoopi hanging out in a grain bucket the other day, so we had to get a picture of it. She certainly is the most quirky barn cat we've  ever had!

Well, that's all for now. We hope you and your family are staying healthy and that the school year is off to a great start. Take care!

Summer is Here!!!

 Hello from Hoofbeat Ridge!

We have been super busy here at camp, but we wanted to stop by with an update!

Our spring programs came and went so quickly - we had a bunch of Saturday camps (Horse Lover's, Pony Fun, Adopt a Horse days). They went great and it was a good warm up for summer. At the end of May, we hosted a small group of Wilderness First Responders. They did a wilderness first aid course and came from all over the country to get certified. We have been hosting these courses for a couple of years now and always enjoy meeting the participants and instructors. And it's a fun break from the normal hustle and bustle of camp!

In early June, our staff started to arrive (we have a few living here for the summer to help take care of getting the horses in and saddled in the mornings). We had a great week of staff training and then last week, day camp opened! Spring went by so quickly, it's hard to believe that camp is in full swing now.

We did have to cancel resident camp again this year, because we weren't sure how things would open back up due to covid. It takes us months to hire counselors, cooks, and prepare for resident camp, so we couldn't have waited until the last minute to decide to run it this summer. It's strange not having it a second summer in a row, but we're glad day camp is going.

Day Camp is going great so far - all of the campers seem to be enjoying their time here. We have a few goats (thanks to Heide and her family!!). We did a day camp blog post recently with pictures - check it out here http://hoofbeatridgedaycamp.blogspot.com/

Here are a few pictures we got the other day of our favorite barn cat (Whoopi) and a few of the horses out enjoying their pasture.

Adopt a Horse Day - April 10, 2021

Thanks to all of our campers and staff for hanging out with us this past Saturday for our Adopt a Horse Day! The weather was rainy later in the afternoon, but we were glad the morning was nice. Each of our groups of campers "adopted" a horse for the day. They got to spend some time grooming their horses and we got some pictures (thanks to our staff for taking these!).

March Camp Update!

 Hello from Hoofbeat Ridge!

We have been staying busy here at camp with some indoor projects and some outdoor ones too! There's always lots to do to stay busy here.

The horses are doing well (maybe a little shaggy and muddy, but it's that time of year). Here are a few pictures of some of them on a nice, sunny day!

We are gearing up for spring programs, which have filled up really fast this year! Our first one will be tomorrow and we look forward to having campers back again.
We have had a couple of weekends that our staff have been out to help clean stalls, tack, and tidy up the barn. They also spent time riding a bunch of the horses, since it's been several months since they have been ridden. We have let the horses out in their pastures and in the arena to run around and exercise. They are really goofy this time of year and they love to buck and play when we let them out.

Well, that's all for now. Enjoy the weekend! (and thanks to Jasmine for the photos of the horses!!)
