Greetings
from Hoofbeat! We hope that you and your family are doing well and are enjoying
the longer days (and mild temperatures).
Things
at camp have been busy lately! Ted has been doing camp fairs and interviewing
new staff for the summer. We have a great crew of returning staff, as well as
new ones and we are excited for you to meet them!
We
are also working on getting things painted and freshened up for spring and
summer programs. It's hard to be bored at Hoofbeat even in our "slow"
season.
The
horses are doing great and some of them are really starting to shed their thick
winter coats. Our pony Stormy is one of the shaggiest right now - he looks like
he could use a good vacuuming. Our four minis (April, May, Junebug, and Luna)
are also shedding like crazy. We had to drain their water tank and scrub it out
this morning because they had so much hair in it. (You know that feeling you
get when you haven't had your teeth cleaned in a long time - the "furry
teeth" feeling? The ponies were going to have that too if we didn't clean
that tank out!)
The
horses have been getting some ear corn on the colder nights and wow! They get
extra goofy from it. There are always a few running around playing in the
morning when we get to the barn to feed. Sometimes they even do laps around
their pastures when we are driving the truck through with hay. They must know
spring is almost here.
Our
Girl Scout Weekends are both full for April and May will be busy with three
Mother/Daughter Weekends all in a row. We are hosting a group of climbing
guides, have more Girl Scout outings, and then our annual open house.
Camp
registrations have been brisk lately and sessions are filling fast for both Day
and Resident Camp. Summer will be here before we know it and we are certainly
looking forward to warm, sunny days, campfires at pow wow point, games on the
lower A field, camper/counselor hunts, campers waiting to get into Trading
Post, and the general hum of camp in
full swing! See you at camp soon!
