Week 7 Update!
Happy Wednesday! We have been busy this week! Yesterday, down the hill, campers played water games to cool off! In Skill Surprise, they went on a color walk to our stargazing tower, trying to find as many different colored things in nature as possible. In Arts and Crafts, we made crayon-resistant paintings. Up at the barn, campers had their regular riding lessons, working on steering at the walk and the trot. In Horse Science, we learned about the farrier as well as hoof care. In Horse Fun, we played rounds of horse bingo!
Today, campers made tissue paper disco balls! In Sports, we played various rounds of Toxic River, some of them requiring groups to communicate without speaking. In Skill Surprise, we made camouflage butterflies. We are still trying to find some! Up at the barn, campers learned about the different gaits of the horse: walk, trot, canter, and gallop. They also go to do some Hobby Horsing!! Campers created obstacle courses and rode their hobby horses around them!
We experienced some warmer weather today. The safety of our campers, horses, and staff is most important. To keep all campers, horses, and staff safe, we shortened our normal schedule to ensure all campers were done riding before the extreme heat came in. To fill the rest of the afternoon, campers participated in a Camper-Counselor Hide and Seek game! Counselors hid around camp while campers tried to find them. After that, some campers headed up to the barn to paint and bathe some horses. They loved the opportunity to cool down. The other half of the campers played some more water games to continue cooling off before switching with the other group. We appreciated everyone's flexibility with the heat today, and we are looking forward to the cooler weather the rest of the week!!
