Welcome to Equestrian Week!!

Equestrian Week!
We are on our final week of camp already?! Time really does fly! We are excited for this week, and have a lot planned. This morning, we started off with advanced Safety, Saddling and Grooming in Horse Science. Since all of our campers this week have been here, they got to lead this activity, walking staff through a barn tour, how to groom and saddle a horse, and proper safety around horses. The campers showed their expertise well!! For the horse related craft, we made silhouette watercolor sunsets! We designed a background and added in horses, trees, birds, and a variety of other things. Campers had a regular riding lesson this morning, where we reviewed Hoofbeat's 5s's: Starting, Stopping, Steering, Spacing and Squirreling. Campers will be working on these skills throughout the entire week!

This afternoon, we headed back up to the barn! Campers got to take pictures with their favorite horses and then visited the Hoofbeat Spa! This activity allowed everyone to pamper some horses. We learned how to give equine massages to relax our horses, we detangled their mane and tail, oiled their tack so it is all clean and shiny, and groomed their bodies. The horses absolutely loved this, and might be asking for a spa day again soon!! For the afternoon riding lesson, we played mounted games today! Some games included "Musical Cones," relay races, and an egg and spoon race! It was so fun getting to see everyone play! We had a great first day and we cannot wait for the rest of the week!
