Welcome to Week 4!

Welcome to Week 4!

Hello and happy Tuesday! We have had a very warm but very fun week so far! The heat cannot stop us from having a great time at camp. We had a great start to the week on Monday with some group get-to-know-you games and icebreakers in Sports. In Skill Surprise, campers got to make their own bingo boards of different animals, color them, and then played a few rounds! In Arts and Crafts, campers made bald eagles or other types of birds using their traced-out hands as wings! Those looked great! Up at the barn, campers got to have their first riding lessons! They learned about Hoofbeat's 5s's: Starting, Stopping, Steering, Spacing, and Squirreling (dismounting). Campers got to learn how those are applied while on horseback. In Horse Science, they went through horse safety, as well as how to groom and saddle a horse! In Horse Fun, they got to cool off inside and play a handful of horse board games. Hoofbeat Guess Who is a fun one!!

To beat the heat as best as possible, we condensed all normal rotations into the morning. This meant the afternoon allowed for more time to cool off and do other activities! Campers got extra time with the horses, helping them cool off by bathing them. They also made some cool pinwheel crafts in a different rotation! Campers played water games to keep themselves cool as well! Drip-Drip-Drop is definitely a camp favorite as well as water balloon toss! Finally, they played the group games, Zoo and 4 corners! Zoo is a fun challenge game where you have to pick the animal that is "higher" than the other player (kind of like Rock, Paper, Scissors) We had such a fun day on Monday, despite the heat!

-----------------------

On Tuesday, the temperature was higher than on Monday, so we ran another heat schedule with all regular activities in the morning. At the barn, campers learned about different Horse Sports like jumping, dressage, barrel racing, and reining. In Horse Science, campers were able to design their own western show outfits that they could wear if they participated in a western horse sport! The creativity was so cool! In riding lessons today, campers continued to work on their spacing and steering, both at the walk and the trot. Down the hill, we made toilet paper roll rockets or fireworks in Arts and Crafts, played USA Jeopardy in Skill Surprise to prepare for the 4th of July, and played a fun "Guess the Pattern" game in Sports! It was such a fun morning.

In the afternoon, to cool off, we went to the Mazo Pool!! Everyone had a blast swimming, going down the slide, and going off the diving board there. We are so grateful for the pool allowing us to cool off for the afternoon there.

We are expecting continued heat this week, but still have lots of fun activities planned! We can't wait to see you all for the rest of the week, stay cool!!
