Goodbye First Week Campers; Parfrey's Glen

This morning we bid a fond farewell to our one-week campers! While those who were going today said their goodbyes and packed up to leave, the two-week campers headed up to the barn. They had a halter show, followed by some morning riding time. Everyone had a great time making their favorite horses beautiful, and getting to ride on this sunny and breezy morning.

In the afternoon, the horses got turned out for some well-earned relaxation time, and camp loaded up the bus to do some hiking. We unloaded at Parfrey's Glen, a natural area very close to Devil's Lake State Park. Here our some pictures from our hike - to see a larger view of any picture, just click on it!

A sign greeted us.

Thanks to the recent rains, the streams and waterfalls were very pretty and flowing nicely.

The area has some breathtaking scenery.

The whole group at the turnaround point. It was lovely and cool down in the glen, although our hiking warmed us up a lot!

The glen is deep enough that a lot of the sunlight is filtered out through the trees.

Prior to our hike, we filled water bottles at the pump at the trail head. We took turns manning the pump so we could all have plenty of water - it was ice cold and delicious!

Everything was very green!

LongBranch 1 pauses for a silly picture before the hike.

Heading back out.

The dramatic rock outcroppings created some cool alcoves.

Hopping from rock to rock across the stream - no one fell in! :)

Sharp eyes found a tiny friend.
